27-year-old man from east London charged with terror offences

A 27-year-old man arrested on Friday 13 April on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of a terrorist act, was charged on Thursday 19 April with three terrorism offences.

Ahmed Hussain, 27 (15.10.1990) of Newham was charged with: one count of encouragement of terrorism, contrary to section 1(2) of the Terrorism Act 2006 and two counts of possession of a document containing information useful for terrorist purposes, contrary to section 58(1)(b) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Hussain appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 20 April, and was remanded custody.

The arrest was made under TACT following an operation by the Met's Counter Terrorism Command (CTC).

As part of the same investigation, a 24-year-old woman was arrested at an address in north London on suspicion of having information about acts of terrorism. She was detained under PACE and taken to a south London police station. She was subsequently released on police bail until early May pending further enquiries.
