Allegations of gross misconduct against former officer found proven

A finding of gross misconduct has been recorded following the conclusion of a misconduct hearing for a former Met officer.

The panel found that the actions of Detective Constable Daniel Brown, formerly attached to the Met’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences team (CAS), had breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Confidentiality and Discreditable Conduct.

In October 2017, a member of former DC Brown’s family was a victim of vehicle crime.

In the days that followed, he accessed a variety of police IT systems in order to obtain and disclose information relating to this matter.

It is alleged that his actions were contrary to the Data Protection Act 1998 and the relevant MPS Information Code of Conduct.

DC Brown was a former officer having resigned from the MPS last year.

The panel found that the breaches amounted to a finding of gross misconduct but no further action was taken.
