Appeal after 70-year-old pedestrian dies in Sutton road traffic collision

Detectives from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating a fatal road collision in Sutton.

Police were called to Cheam Road junction with Sutton High Street at 11:28hrs to reports of a pedestrian in collision with a lorry.

Officers and LAS attended the scene.

The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and formal ID awaits.

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with enquiries.

No arrests have been made and enquires continue.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Merton Traffic Garage is investigating.

DS John Hartfree, leading the investigation, said: "This incident happened at a busy time of day and there would have been a lot of motorists in the area who may have seen what happened. We would urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can piece together what happened."
