Appeal following Balham collision that left man with life-changing injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a road traffic collision left a man with a serious leg injury.

The incident happened at approximately 07:15hrs on Sunday, 10 June in Balham High Road, SW12.

A 125cc motorcycle was travelling south on Balham High Road when it was in collision with a bus stop outside a McDonalds restaurant. The rider, a 22-year-old man, was taken to a south London hospital for treatment to a serious leg injury where he remains - he has since had the lower part of one leg amputated.

Detective Sergeant John Hartfree of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Merton leads the investigation - he said:

“We have established that no other vehicles were involved in this collision but we still need people who witnessed this incident to come forward and speak to police.

“A man has been left with life-changing injuries and we need to clarify the sequence of events that led to this collision.”
