Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the death of an 89-year-old man who was hit by a car in West Ham on Boxing Day.
Julio Silva was walking across Upton Lane - close to the crossroads - at the junction with Portway and Plashet Road, E7 next to West Ham Park, at around 20:25hrs on 26 December 2017, when he was in collision with a black Ford Focus that failed to stop at the scene.
Mr Silva was seriously injured and taken to an east London hospital where he died on 28 December 2017.
A post-mortem examination held on Tuesday, 9 January at East Ham gave cause of death as organ failure and multiple injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, aged 20, initially made off but returned to the scene later that evening. He was subsequently interviewed under caution.
Detective Constable Wendy Hunter, from the Roads and Transport Poling Command, said: "Mr Silva was in the UK from Portugal visiting family over the Christmas period and was enjoying spending time with his grandson. His family have described him as full of life and greatly missed.
"We have spoken to the driver involved in this incident but are keen to trace further witnesses. There were other vehicles at the traffic lights by the crossroads who may have seen the collision or Mr Silva crossing the road.
"If you have any information or saw anything please get in touch."
Anyone who can help is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Chadwell Heath traffic garage on 020 8345 4955 or 020 8597 4874.
