News   •   Jun 23, 2019 16:15 BST

Officers are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision close to Trafalgar Square.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 00:09hrs on Saturday, 22 June to reports of a red Citroen C4 in collision with a pedestrian on Northumberland Avenue, WC2.

The 29-year-old pedestrian was taken to a central London hospital where he remains in a critical condition. His family have been informed.

The driver stopped at the scene.

The Roads and Transport Policing Command is investigating and officers have spoken with a number of witnesses.

At this early stage, it is believed that the victim may have been involved in an altercation with a third party – and not the driver - minutes before the collision.

Officers would like to speak with anyone who saw either the collision or the earlier incident.

Any witnesses – or anyone with any information or dashcam footage - is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8543 5157 quoting reference Cad 49/22Jun.

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
