Detectives investigating a sexual assault onboard a bus in Tower Hamlets have released an image of a man they want to talk to.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, boarded the Route 25 bus from Chancery Lane heading east at approximately 07:30hrs on Sunday, 2 July and sat at the back of the bus in the middle seat.

The suspect boarded the bus near Whitechapel and sat to the left of the woman. He then placed a backpack on his lap, appearing to be going through his bag. He then sexually assaulted the woman.

The woman confronted him, and he got off the bus outside Mile End tube station. The image released was taken by the victim and shows the suspect.

The man is described as Asian, aged between 60 and 65, with grey hair and a beard. He was carrying a backpack.

Detective Inspector Paul Smyth, from the Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: "We would like to talk to the man pictured about this sexual assault which left the victim shaken and upset. Sexual assaults of this nature are totally deplorable and we will always investigate these types of offences thoroughly. If you know who this man is, we would like to hear from you."
