Appeal for witness in Calvin Bungisa murder

News   •   Apr 08, 2019 15:21 BST

Calvin Bungisa was murdered on Monday 1 April

Detectives are appealing for the driver of car to come forward after the vehicle was captured on dash-cam seconds before a murder in Kentish Town.

Police were called at approximately 20:30hrs on Monday, 1 April to reports of a stabbing in Grafton Road at the junction with Vicar's Road, NW5.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended and found 22-year-old Calvin Bungisa with multiple stab injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 21:01hrs and a murder investigation was launched by the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

His next of kin continue to be supported by specialist officers and on the week’s anniversary of the fatal stabbing, key dash-cam footage has been released.

Officers are also appealing for a phone belonging to Calvin which they believe was removed from the scene of the murder to be handed in.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell, who is leading the investigation, said: "It is a week since Calvin was murdered and we are committed to finding out who took his life in this brutal and merciless attack.

“The response from the public so far has been excellent and is helping us piece together the events which led to the murder. However the flow of information has now slowed and we have yet to trace the car seen in the CCTV footage.

“The CCTV footage shows a car, possibly dark in colour, reversing as Calvin is attacked. “It is unclear what the make or model is

“It is very possible that the driver remains unaware that they were witness to a murder in action. The attack would have been frightening to witness and it is understandable that they would have wanted to leave the area as quickly as possible.

“If you are the driver in the footage, please come forward and talk to us. You are a key witness and your help could help bring murderers to justice and closure to a grieving family.

“It is also a strong possibility that Calvin’s murder was gang related and sadly, we know there are a number of people who know what happened, but have yet to share this with us.

“Specifically there were a group of young, black males who we know were with Calvin prior to his murder and we want to speak to them. If this was you, and Calvin was your friend, or even if you knew him indirectly, please consider doing the right thing. He has mother, sister, brothers and grandmother, who are grieving and need to know why he was killed.

“If you do not want to speak to us as police officers directly, call Crimestoppers and pass on information anonymously.”

Officers believe that several male suspects ran out of Vicar’s Road and chased Calvin down Grafton Road before fatally attacking him. They then ran back into Vicar’s Road and got into a car, which drove off in the direction of Weedington Road.

We believe this car was the same car that was found burnt out the day after and has been forensically recovered.
No arrests have been made in connection with the murder at this stage.

Officers will be in the area on Monday, 8 April carrying out enquiries on the week’s anniversary of Calvin’s murder.

Please share information with them as anything, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist the investigation.
