Police are appealing for witnesses after the driver of a BMW involved in a serious collision made off from the scene.
At around 22:30hrs on Tuesday, 9 January, a silver BMW 330 Sport was in collision with a Vauxhall Vectra on the A406 flyover above Redbridge Roundabout.
As a result of the impact from the collision, the Vectra collided with two men who were standing at the side of the flyover next to their own car, which had broken down.
The two men, both aged in their 40s, were taken to hospital. Neither is in a life-threatening condition, however their injuries were extremely serious and led to both men having a leg amputated.
The occupants of the Vectra - a driver and a passenger - were not injured.
The BMW stopped at the scene, however the male driver made off on foot prior to the arrival of emergency services. Officers are not issuing a further description of this man at present.
Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath are investigating.
They are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was driving in the area at the time and believe they may have captured the male making off on dashcam footage, to call police on 020 8597 4874.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation.
