Detectives are continuing to liaise with the London Fire Brigade following a fatal fire at a house in Croydon.
Police were called by the LFB at around 17:40hrs on Monday, 25 March to reports of a fire at an address on Camden Gardens in Thornton Heath.
A 13-year-old boy was taken to a south London hospital in a critical condition suffering from smoke inhalation. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he died on Wednesday, 3 April.
A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
A man, aged in his 30s, and a woman, aged in her 20s, both suffered from smoke inhalation and laceration injuries. Both were injured as they tried to rescue the injured boy. They were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service and have since been discharged.
Another man, aged in his 50s, also sustained a minor laceration injury and was treated at the scene by the LAS.
Two children were also taken to hospital as a precaution.
Three male firefighters were also taken to hospital suffering the effects of smoke inhalation. They have since been discharged from hospital.
The cause of the fire has not been established and an investigation is underway. At this early stage, there is no evidence to suggest that the incident is suspicious.
Officers from the South Area Command Unit investigate. There have been no arrests.
