[Suspect sought following Croydon assault]

Police in Croydon are issuing CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an assault on a woman.

On Sunday, 26 February, at around 03:00hrs, officers were flagged down outside a bar on Croydon High Street by members of the public who informed them that a woman had been assaulted.

The 23-year-old victim stated that she and her friend were leaving the premises to get into a booked taxi. As they went outside they discovered that four men were standing near the vehicle, and one of them got inside.

The victim said to the man that she had booked the taxi and asked him to get out. A verbal altercation ensued before the man got out and attempted to punch her. He missed but then hit her again, causing her to temporarily lose her sight. He then made off.

The suspect is described as a black man, aged approximately 25-30 years old, with a black beard. He was wearing dark top and jeans.

PC Jason Sim, of Croydon CID, said: “This was a nasty assault on a young woman which left her hospitalised as a result of an injury to her eye. Thankfully she has made a full recovery, but we ask the public to help us identify this man so we can bring him to justice.”
