Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision in Romford.
Police were called shortly after 01:45hrs on Saturday, 18 March, to a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Whalebone Lane North.
Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. The pedestrian - a 47-year-old man - was pronounced dead at the scene at 02:24hrs.
Next of kin have been informed. Police await formal identification, and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
The 27-year-old driver of the car stopped at the scene. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. He has been taken into custody at an east London police station.
Road closures were put in place, but the road has now fully re-opened.
