A Harrow man has been jailed for a total of 20 years for multiple rapes and sexual assaults against a victim with learning and physical disabilities.

Florin Calin Trifan, 40, (01.12.77), a Romanian national from Harrow, was found guilty at Harrow Crown Court on Friday, 9 March of rape and sexual assault.

He was sentenced on Wednesday, 25 April to 20 years' imprisonment.

Multiple offences were committed against a woman aged in her 20s at her family home in Harrow, between January 2015 and January 2016. The victim has learning disabilities and it is unknown how many times she was raped and sexually assaulted during that time. Trifan was known to the victim and her family.

Police were informed in January 2016 after the victim spoke with a charity support worker.

Trifan was arrested on 29 January 2016 by officers from the Met's Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command. He was convicted as above after a trial at Harrow Crown Court.

He was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment and was handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order prohibiting him from working with any female with learning disabilities, residing at an address with any female with learning disabilities and being left unsupervised with any female with learning disabilities.

The investigating officer DC Angie Meadows, from the Met's Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command, said: "Trifan controlled and manipulated the victim throughout his campaign of offences against her, causing her, and subsequently her family, considerable torment.

"Throughout the investigation he has maintained that his behaviour was merely that of a 'weak man'. The sentencing today reflects the seriousness of the offences and that Trifan poses a risk of serious harm to the public."
