A man has been convicted of sexual assault in Shoreditch.

Jabari Shelton, 27 (23.12.91) of Manhattan, New York City pleaded guilty on Thursday, 3 January, to sexually assaulting a woman in a Shoreditch hotel room.

He was given a restraining order, fined £4,000 and order to pay compensation of £2,500 to the victim.

The victim - a woman aged in her 20s - was asleep when Shelton entered her hotel room on 10 July 2017. He woke her up and, as she escaped to the bathroom, Shelton sexually assaulted the victim by slapping her naked bottom.

Shelton was arrested on 16 May 2018 and charged the same day.

Detective Constable Adam Langley of the Met's Central East BCU said: "The victim of this sexual assault has had the courage and determination to seek justice for what has been a traumatic event in her life. I hope that this conviction provides her with some comfort."
