Message from Commander Bas Javid ahead of the weekend
“As the lockdown restrictions are lifted further this weekend, like me, I know many Londoners will be looking forward to the city returning to a sense of normality.
“However, it is so important we don’t lose track of how far we have all come. We remain in a health crisis and we all have an essential part in helping to minimise the spread of Coronavirus.
“So if you’re heading to a bar, restaurant or other hospitality venue this weekend, my ask is that you remain responsible and keep each other safe. Many bars and pubs will be opening under very strict conditions, limiting the number of patrons to help follow social distancing guidelines. With that in mind, please check before heading out and if you are using public transport, plan your trip carefully and ensure you bring a face covering. Public transport continues to be limited and Night Tube services will not be running.
“Over the last couple of weeks, Met officers have been working closely with local authorities across the capital as they engage with licensed premises preparing to reopen their doors. Bars and pubs have a duty to keep their patrons safe and we know they share our desire to maintain a safe space for people to enjoy themselves.
“Throughout the weekend, officers across London will be out on duty across London and will be engaging positively with those members of the public who are taking advantage of the ease in restrictions.
“Keep yourselves, your friends and family safe by remaining vigilant. By working together, we can avoid adding any unnecessary burden to our health colleagues and help control the virus.”
