UPDATE: Victim named in Chingford murder

Detectives investigating the murder of a man found dead at a property in Chingford have named the victim.

Officers were called at 13:12hrs on Tuesday, 19 February to a residential address on Genever Close, E4.

The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service also attended. A man was found deceased inside the house.

While we await formal identification, we are satisfied that he is 69-year-old Brian Wieland. He lived at the address.

His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination was held on Thursday, 21 February at Walthamstow Mortuary, and cause of death was given as multiple head injuries.

A 51-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. She was taken to hospital to be treated for burns where she remains in a stable condition. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

She will be questioned by police in due course.

Initial enquiries suggest that the arrested woman and Mr Wieland were known to each other.

The Homicide and Major Crime Command are leading the investigation. Enquiries into the full circumstances continue.
