A PC has been dismissed from the Metropolitan Police Service for inappropriate communication with a child and possession of indecent images.

PC Andrew Coughlan, formerly of the Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC), answered to allegations that his conduct amounted to a breach of the Met’s standards of professional behaviour in respect of ‘discreditable conduct’ at a gross misconduct hearing on Wednesday, 10 January.

On 19 May 2014, PC Coughlan contacted a 15-year-old girl and engaged in an inappropriate online exchange of messages.

On 12 March 2015 PC Coughlan was arrested. During a search of his property five unlawful indecent images of children were found on his computer.

The hearing panel found gross misconduct proven and PC Coughlan was dismissed without notice.
