An officer has been found to have committed gross misconduct after punching a man in the face several times.

PC Steven Harrison, based at Sutton borough, faced a Metropolitan Police Service gross misconduct hearing that concluded today, Friday, 14 September.

The officer faced allegations that his conduct amounted to a breach of the standards of professional behaviour in respect of, 'discreditable conduct' and 'use of force'.

The panel heard that on 9 February 2017, while officers were making an arrest, that man who was detained spat in PC Harrison's face. In response the officer punched the man numerous times.

After hearing all the evidence and mitigation the panel found the most appropriate outcome was a final written warning.
