Police name victim of fatal stabbing, Hackney

Detectives investigating the murder of a 24-year-old man in Hackney have named the victim, as they continue to appeal for information.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to reports of a stabbing at Christie Road, Hackney on Thursday, 7 December at around 16:45hrs.

The victim was treated by medical professionals for a stab wound but sadly died at the scene at 17:20hrs.

A post-mortem examination took place at Poplar Mortuary at 14:00hrs on Friday, 8 December and gave the cause of death as a stab wound.

On Monday, 11 December, he was formally identified as 24-year-old Alex Vanderpuye, from Hackney.

At this stage, officers retain an open mind regarding motive.

The Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating and are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the vicinity of Christie Road at the junction with Cassland Road at around 16:45hrs on Friday, 8 December.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Piscopo, leading the investigation, said: "My officers will be at the scene of the murder on Thursday, 14 December from 15:30hrs to 18:30hrs and will be available to speak with anyone who believes they may have seen something. We will also be distributing leaflets in the area that will include contact details for our incident room.

"Hackney is a busy and vibrant borough and this incident took place at a time where lots of people would have been around. No matter how insignificant you think it may be, please make the call."

No arrests have been made.
