UPDATE: Arrest in Tower Hamlets murder investigation

Detectives investigating the murder of a woman in Tower Hamlets have made an arrest.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after attending a south London police station on Saturday, 12 January - he remains in custody.

A murder investigation was launched in following the death of a woman in Poplar.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) to a residential address in City Island Way, E14, shortly after 16:00hrs on Friday, 11 January, following reports of an assault.

Officers attended.

A woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found with a neck injury. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 16:17hrs.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. Formal identification awaits.

Next of kin have been informed.

The Homicide and Major Crime Command investigate and enquiries continue.

At this early stage it is believed that the victim was known to the suspect.
