Victim named following Oxford Street collision

Detectives appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on Oxford Street have released the name of the victim.

He was Dr Chesmal Siriwardhana, 38, who was living in Greenwich, but was originally from Sri Lanka.

Police were called at 02:00hrs on Sunday, 9 April to reports of a collision between a bus and a pedestrian in Oxford Street at the junction with Harewood Place.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and found a man injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 02:04hrs.

His next-of-kin have been informed

A post-mortem examination took place at the Westminster Mortuary on Tuesday, 11 April. No formal cause of death was established.

The bus driver stopped at the scene. They have not been arrested and are assisting police with their enquiries.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating.

Despite the collision occurring in the early hours of the morning, there would have been a number of people in the vicinity at the time and detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
