A Police Constable has admitted to fraud and perverting the course of justice.

PC Jasvir Raju, attached to Waltham Forest borough, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, 6 March for a pre-trial hearing.

PC Raju, 25, changed his original plea and pleaded guilty to one count of fraud, and one count of perverting the course of justice

The charges relate to a damage only road traffic collision on 1 February 2017 on the A12, Havering, where PC Raju reported his vehicle as stolen and an insurance claim was subsequently made.

The officer, who was off duty at the time of the incident, was charged with the two offences on 23 November 2017 and first appeared at Barking Magistrates' court on 23 December 2017.

He will be sentenced at the same court on Wednesday, 28 March.

He is currently on restricted duties; however a suspension request will be submitted for consideration.

The officer will now be subject to a misconduct review by the Directorate of Professional Standards.
