Appeal for witnesses to fatal collision in Merton

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal collision in Merton.

Police were called at 16:21hrs on Saturday, 29 May to reports of a car in collision with a moped on St Helier Avenue close to Netley Gardens in Morden.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended. Despite their efforts, the 25-year-old rider was pronounced dead at the scene at 17:01hrs.

Officers are in the process of informing his next of kin.

At this early stage, it is believed that two cars were travelling at speed prior to one of them being in collision with the moped. Both drivers have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They have been taken to south London police stations where they remain in custody.

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating.

They would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision, the moments leading up to it, or who has dash cam footage.
