Detectives are appealing for information one month on from a serious unprovoked assault in Wimbledon.

Officers were called to High Street Mews in Wimbledon Village at 02:25hrs on Sunday, 8 March after two men, aged in their 20s, were randomly attacked by an unknown group of people.

One of the victims remains in hospital with serious head injuries. The other victim has been discharged from hospital.

Acting Detective Sergeant Simon Monga said: “The victims were subjected to a frightening ordeal in a completely unprovoked attack while they were walking home. They were punched and kicked to the floor and assaulted further.

“Nothing was stolen from them and we believe this could have been a case of mistaken identity.

“One of the victims remains in hospital and will do so for many weeks."

Following an earlier CCTV appeal a number of people have come forward to help police with their enquiries.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent. He is currently in police custody.
