Detective sergeant dismissed for improper use of police vehicle

A detective sergeant has been dismissed without notice following the conclusion of a misconduct hearing on Tuesday, 10 November.

DS David Baldwin, who was based at the West Area Safeguarding Unit, was found to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour, in respect of Honesty & Integrity, Orders & Instructions, Duties & Responsibilities and Discreditable Conduct.

It was alleged that between May and August 2018, DS Baldwin used a police vehicle eight times to travel between his place of work and home.

This was alleged to be without authority and in contravention of the MPS driving policy, and it was alleged he used the vehicles for private purposes.

The Independent Legally Qualified Chair, Mr Akbar Khan and the panel at the hearing considered all of the evidence and found all matters proven as gross misconduct.

DS Baldwin was dismissed without notice.
