Four men arrested at Heathrow in connection with the murder of Chino Johnson

Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of Chino Johnson in Lambeth have made four arrests.

The four, [A] – [D], were arrested on Tuesday, 21 September at Heathrow Airport as they attempted to leave the UK.

[A] A 20-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of murder.
[B] A 20-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
[C] A 24-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
[D] A 22-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All four remain in custody at a south London police station.

At 20:57hrs on Sunday, 12 September, police were alerted by the London Ambulance Service to reports of a shooting in Ferrey Mews, SW9.

Officers attended with paramedics and found 27-year-old Chino Johnson with gunshot injuries.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, Chino was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

His next of kin were informed and continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Police believe that shortly before 21:00hrs, two suspects on a moped rode into Ferrey Mews where they opened fire on a group of people socialising outside, Chino was fatally wounded.

Two women, aged 26 and 29, sustained injuries that were not life threatening.

After the shots were fired, the suspects fled the scene on the moped in the direction of Bennett Road and Dora Way.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command who leads the investigation, said:

“Despite four arrests having been made, I am still very keen to hear from anyone who has information relating to Chino’s murder.

“If you know something, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please do the right thing and get in touch with us.

“If you do not wish to speak to police, you can also provide information 100 per cent anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers.”
