Image issued following sexual assault on bus in central London

Detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command have released an image of a man they want to identify and are appealing for witnesses following an incident of sexual assault and harassment.

The incident happened after the suspect boarded a route 38 bus travelling towards Victoria at around 22:00hrs on 30 July.

A 26-year-old woman boarded the bus near Tottenham Court Road – as she walked past the suspect, who was seated, he sexually assaulted her. The woman reported the incident to the driver who called police but the suspect had left the bus.

A group of women also on the bus reported to the driver that the same man had been harassing them in the minutes prior to the sexual assault.

The suspect is described as tall black male, about 35 years of age with short braids in his hair.

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Dougall said:

“I would urge anyone who recognises the man in this picture to contact police. This was a traumatic experience for all those involved and I want to reassure the public that our officers are working diligently to identify and apprehend the person responsible.”
