Man pleads guilty to murder of woman in Newham

A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a woman in Newham in March.

Kieran Rifat, 22 (09.06.1998), of Grange Road, Plaistow, entered his plea today at the Old Bailey.

Police were called at 15.09hrs on Thursday, 26 March, to a body found in the grounds of Memorial Community Church in Barking Road, E13.

Emergency services attended and the victim, formally identified as Kelly Stewart, 41 (28.05.78), was declared dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination held at East Ham Mortuary on Friday, 27 March, gave cause of death as impact injuries to the head.

She was of no fixed abode at the time of her death, but was from the Newham area.

Rifat will be sentenced on 29 January 2021.
