Murder investigation launched after death of baby girl in SE16

A murder investigation has been launched by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command following the death of a baby girl in SE16.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are investigating the death of an eight-week-old baby girl at a residential address in SE16. 

The infant was found unresponsive on Friday, 26 April. The London Ambulance Service and police attended. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:16hrs.

Next of kin are aware. 

A post-mortem scan of the child showed a number of broken bones. On Friday, 3 May, police arrested a 24-year-old man [A] and a 21-year-old woman [B] on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. 

A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday, 10 May was inconclusive.

Following further testing police further arrested [A] and [B] on suspicion of murder. They have both been released on bail to a date in mid-October. 

Officers from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigate led by Detective Chief Inspector John Massey.
