An unlicensed music event (UME) in Newham has been closed and the organiser reported for consideration of a fixed penalty notice.
Police were called to a disused shop on Green Street, E13 shortly after 22:30hrs on Saturday, 24 April following reports of a large number of people at a UME.
Officers attended and gained entry before dispersing the crowd. The event was finally closed by 03:00hrs on Sunday, 25 April. Officers remained in the area and the building was secured.
The organiser was subsequently reported for consideration of a £10,000 fixed penalty notice.
Inspector Garside, from the North East BCU, which covers Newham, said: “Despite the current easing of lockdown restrictions, we remain in a pandemic and this type of large gathering remains prohibited. Not only were those present taking unnecessary risks, they were also causing significant disruption to the local area.
“The behaviour of a minority will not be tolerated and we will continue to do whatever we can to keep our communities safe.”
+ A dispersal zone was also implemented in the vicinity for a 48-hour period. This covers Romford Road, Katherine Road, Barking Road, Greengate Street, Clegg Street and Upton Lane.
