Witnesses sought following Islington collision

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a car which made off from police collided with a moped in Islington.

At 22:58hrs on Saturday, 24 April, a car drove away at speed having apparently seen police vehicles in the area of Seven Sisters Road. The vehicle was not pursued, however officers in an unmarked police vehicle sought to remain in contact with the car.

The car, a blue Nissan Qashqai, was subsequently in collision with a moped on Holloway Road near to Highbury Corner at 23:07hrs.

The Nissan stopped at the scene having sustained significant damage. The occupants of the vehicle made off on foot. There has been no arrest and enquiries are underway to trace them.

The rider of the moped, a man aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service. His injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

As is routine in such cases, the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed.
