Appeal following collision in Walthamstow

An investigation into the circumstances of a collision involving a car and two pedestrians in Walthamstow remains ongoing.

The incident happened at around 19:10hrs on Thursday, 1 February in Shernhall Street, E17. Both women were crossing the road at the time of the collision.

Officers are aware of speculation circulating that the two pedestrians, both woman who were wearing traditional Muslim clothing, we deliberately targeted. Our initial enquiries have found nothing to suggest this is the case.

One women was taken to hospital for treatment; her condition is not life threatening.

Both women will be supported by officers in the coming days and kept updated as the investigation progresses.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting us with enquiries; there has been no arrest at this time.
