Appeal following fail-to-stop collision in Harrow

Detectives are making a new appeal for witnesses after a man died following a fail-to-stop collision in Harrow.

Ping Leung Cheng was found injured by a member of the public at the junction of St Andrews Close and Culver Grove at around 00:15hrs on 7 August 2022.

Officers established the 61-year-old, who was also known as Colin, had injuries consistent with by hit by a car. He died at the scene.

The driver of the car did not stop at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Rebecca Collens, from the serious collision investigation team, said: "Based on our enquiries so far, we believe the car involved in the collision was a silver Mercedes.

"I know some time has passed since the incident occurred, but Colin's family are desperate to know what happened to him and they deserve answers.

"I'd ask anyone with information about the collision, or saw the car in the area, to come forward immediately."

Colin's family added: "Colin was a beloved member of our family and of the community. He never failed to celebrate life's important milestones within our family and always made every effort to be present at them.

"Cooking was his passion and he always used it as a way to bless those around him, whether it was turning up with our favourite dishes or hosting a big party.

"Those who crossed paths with Colin will also tell you that he was one of the most hardworking people you'll ever meet - whether it was maintaining his home and garden or at his job in Nando's, his character and person always brought a smile to your face."

In January 2023, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision. He is released under investigation while enquiries continue.
