Appeal following fatal collision in Cheam

Officers are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Cheam.

Police were called at 11:06hrs on Saturday, 20 June to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Belmont Rise in Cheam.

Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital in critical condition but sadly died later that evening. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, stopped at the scene and did not sustain any injuries. There were no arrests.

Detective Constable Caroline Landy, from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of victim at this extremely difficult time.

“As we try to build up a full picture of the incident, we want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any relevant information, particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.”
