Appeal for victims of two sexual assaults in Islington to speak to police

Police are appealing for information following a series of sexual assaults in Islington and the City of London.

On Thursday, 2 May police were made aware of two sexual assaults that took place between 15:00hrs and 16:00hrs.

One of the assaults took place in Bunhill Fields and the second took place on Bunhill Row, EC1, which falls within the Met’s jurisdiction in Islington. The women who were assaulted have not been identified and we are appealing for them to come forward and contact us.

There were also two separate sexual assaults within the City of London that took place on 19 June and 16 August. The victims were identified and are being supported by police.

Detective Constable Tom Wright who is leading the investigation said: “I am appealing to the public for information regarding the two sexual assaults that took place on Thursday, 2 May. I want to know if you were in the area at this time, or if you saw anything suspicious take place. If you did, then I urge you to get in contact with us as soon as possible.

“We are currently working to trace the two women who were attacked - if you were a victim then please reach out to us in order to gain the support you need - we want to be there for you. You can contact us directly on 101 or if you wish to remain anonymous then please speak to Crimestoppers.

“There is also a possibility that he has committed other offences in and around the Islington/City of London border. If you have been the victim of sexual assault then please get in contact.”

A man was arrested by officers from City of London police and subsequently charged with four counts of sexual assault.
