Appeal for witnesses following fatal collision in Barnet
Police are appealing for information following a fatal collision in Barnet on Thursday, 14 May.
At around 23:30hrs, officers responded to reports of a collision between two cars - a Volkswagen Golf and Nissan Qashqai - at the junction between Whetstone High Road and Chandos Avenue, Barnet.
Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the front passenger of the Volkswagen, a man in his 20s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers.
Two rear passengers of the same car, a man and a woman in their 20s, were taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening and life-changing injuries. Both remain in hospital, but their condition is deemed to be stable.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 20-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in hospital where he is receiving treatment for non-life threatening nor life-changing injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, a woman in her 20s, was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
Detective Inspector John Millward, from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all the young people involved in this tragic collision at this extremely difficult time.
“As we try to build up a full picture of the incident, we are appealing to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or any relevant information - particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.”
