Appeal for witnesses following fatal collision in Southall

Police are appealing for information following a fatal collision in Southall.

On Tuesday, 22 September at approximately 13:38hrs, police were called to reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian in Emerald Square, Southall.

Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, a 68-year-old man sadly died at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and continue to receive support from specialist officers.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, 22 September on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified. He has now been released on bail pending further investigation. 

A crime scene was established and detectives from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are leading enquiries into the circumstances of the collision.

Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

"This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.

"Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this devastating loss.

"While we have already made one arrest in connection with this incident, we are now working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

"I would also urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have captured footage on CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell cameras, to contact police as this information could prove vital to our investigation."
