Appeal to establish what happened to man found unresponsive in Croydon

Detectives in Croydon are working to find out how a man found unresponsive in Croydon sustained his injuries.

The 69-year-old man was found at about 17:00hrs on Sunday, 7 January by a member of the public outside the Moon Under Water pub in London Road SW16.

He was taken to a south London hospital, having suffered serious head and facial injuries. Thankfully these are not life-threatening, and he has now been released from hospital.

His family are aware.

Local officers have been door to door and visited a wealth of businesses and addresses to identify witnesses and gather CCTV. However nothing obtained so far shows what happened to the man.

Detective Constable Leanne Ticehurst said: "The man had been out running errands and simply remembers walking down London Road and then waking up in hospital. He doesn't know what happened to him.

"We think his injuries are too serious to have been caused by a fall, and that he may have been assaulted.

"London Road was very busy at the time, and it’s possible that people might have captured dash cam or Doorbell footage that could help police establish what happened to him.

The man is Asian, and was wearing a black jacket with red zips, light coloured blue denim jeans, black trainers, and a dark coloured beanie.
