Arrest made in Hayes murder as appeals continue

Detectives investigating the murder of a teenager in Hayes have made an arrest as an appeal for witnesses and information continues.

An investigation was launched after police were called at around 13:30hrs on Friday, 24 May to reports of a stabbing in Bourne Avenue, Hayes.

Officers, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance responded and were on scene within minutes.

Despite the extensive efforts of medics the victim, aged 16, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and we can confirm the deceased is Kamari Johnson from the local area. Kamari’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

On the evening of Saturday, 25 May a 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila from the Met’s Specialist Crime leads the investigation and said:

“Kamari’s murder has understandably caused shock and concern amongst the local community. A team of experienced detectives is working tirelessly to establish what happened to Kamari and why he was attacked. This evening’s arrest demonstrates the progress we are making and this is in no small part to the assistance we’ve had from the community. We need to work together to ensure Kamari’s family get the answers they deserve about what happened to him.

“I would urge people not to speculate about this incident but come and speak to us if you have any information that could assist the investigation. I’m particularly keen to hear from any residents who may have captured footage on doorbell or dashcam devices – please check your cameras to see if there is anything relevant on them and, if so, get in contact.”

Anyone with footage or images that could assist the investigation can upload them directly to police via the Operation Brownlow online portal.

If you witnessed the incident or have information that could help then call 101 or post @MetCC ref CAD 3832/24 May.
