Camden sex offender handed prison sentence for rape thanks to Met investigation

A dangerous rapist has been jailed as part of the Metropolitan Police Service’s ongoing commitment to protect women and girls from harm.

Victor Adegbesan, 34 (15.10.1989) of Inverness Street, Camden was sentenced to 6 years 7 months’ imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, 26 July. He was previously found guilty of two counts of rape after a trial at the same court on Friday, 3 May.

On Thursday, 22 July 2021 Adegbesan subjected the victim-survivor to a frightening and horrific ordeal when he raped her. An investigation began after Met officers quickly responded to a 999 call by the victim. The team worked around-the-clock to gather evidence and secured a charge the next day, keeping Adegbesan in custody and off the streets.

Detective Constable Max Orange, who led the investigation in Camden, said: “I commend the bravery of the victim-survivor for coming forward and reporting this abhorrent crime.

“The Met takes its responsibility to protect women and girls incredibly seriously. I am proud we secured justice for the victim-survivor putting one more dangerous predator behind bars.

“We urge anyone who has been a victim of abuse – no matter how long ago – to please come forward to police and get the support you rightly deserve.”

The victim-survivor was supported by specialist Met detectives after reporting the rape and throughout the whole criminal justice process. Met officers displayed care and compassion as they carried out extensive interviews with the victim. The team also gathered detailed medical records to show the extent of the abuse and develop a watertight case against Adegbesan.

The Met is transforming the way it protects the public from harm as it builds A New Met for London, putting an extra 565 people into specialist teams to prioritise this critical work and target offenders. These dedicated teams have expertise in investigating domestic abuse, sexual offences, child sexual abuse and exploitation, harmful practices and safeguarding. As part of this commitment, officers and staff are working more closely with partners across London to protect victim-survivors and bring offenders to justice.
