Man arrested following suspicious fire in Islington

Detectives investigating a suspicious fire on Wednesday, 24 September in the grounds of a premises in Dingley Road, Islington have made an arrest.

Officers arrested a 64-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and possession of a bladed article.

He has been taken into custody where he remains.

Commander Hayley Sewart, who is leading the investigation for the Met, said: “I would like to thank my team for their quick and effective work in identifying the suspect and making this arrest.

“We understand the ongoing concern in the local community and our investigation is continuing at pace.”

The fire had been put out by staff at the premises before police attended. No one was injured.

Enquiries are ongoing and this continues to be investigated as a hate crime.
