Man charged following fatal collision on M4 in Hillingdon
A man has been charged after a couple died following a collision on the M4.
Maninder Singh Brar, 28 (07.10.97), of Minterne Way, Hayes was charged on Sunday, 7 June with the following offences:
- Two counts of causing death by dangerous driving
- Two counts of causing death while uninsured
- Failing to stop following a road traffic collision
The charges relate to a road traffic collision involving a black BMW 320i and a white VW Golf, on the M4 westbound at Junction 4, Hillingdon, on Monday, 1 June.
Police were called at 23:37hrs to reports of a serous collision at the location.
The occupants of one car, a white VW Golf, were treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mohammad Hagila, 63, died at the scene.
Diljan Hagila, 62, also a passenger in the Golf, was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. She sadly died in hospital on Saturday, 6 June.
A third person, a 29-year-old man, was also taken to hospital, where his injuries were deemed not to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The family of Mohammad and Diljan continue to be supported by specially trained officers, as does the 29-year-old man who is recovering.
Maninder Singh Brar is alleged to have been driving the BMW at the time and further alleged to have fled the scene following the collision.
Following enquiries by the Met, Brar was arrested on Saturday, 6 June on suspicion of:
- Causing death by dangerous driving
- Failing to stop
- Driving without insurance
- Dangerous driving
- Fraud
- Driving a stolen vehicle
- Theft of motor vehicle
Brar will appear in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8 June.
Acting Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, who is leading the Met’s investigation, said: “This is a truly tragic incident, in which two members of the public have lost their lives.
“Our deepest sympathies remain with the family of Mohammad and Diljan Hagila at this incredibly difficult time.
“I would urge anyone who may have information that has not yet been shared with police, to come forward and speak to us.”
