Man convicted of attempted murder after detectives extradite him from France

A man has been convicted of attempted murder of a woman after a diligent investigation by specialist detectives led to his extradition from France.

Bodrul Alam, 24 (01.07.99), of Orde Hall Street, Bloomsbury, was found guilty of attempted murder on May 31 after a trial at the Old Bailey.

Detective Constable Olli Meek, the officer in the case, said: "Alam left the victim, a woman known to him, with multiple stab injuries in an unprovoked attack. It's only thanks to the speed and skill of the initial attending officers, London Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance paramedics who came to her aid, and the doctors and nurses at hospital, that she is alive today."

Alam fled to Europe immediately after the incident at an address in Camden on 29 April last year. Having quickly identified him as a suspect, police worked with international partners to identify his whereabouts. He was arrested near Versaille, France on 19 July and was returned to the UK on 3 August 2023.

Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Julian Bates. said: “It is important to highlight that this attack took place in front of the victim’s children. They were instrumental in saving her life as they courageously called for assistance and provided vital care to their mother in the immediate aftermath until help arrived.

"The victim has a long road ahead following this terrible ordeal, but seeing her attacker put behind bars will, I hope, go some small way to helping her in her recovery. She has shown incredible bravery and resilience and I would like to thank her and her family for their dignity whilst engaging with the court processes"

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Tod, based in Central North, said: “This case demonstrates the lengths police will go to in order to bring offenders to justice and protect the public from violence against women and girls”

Alam will be sentenced at the same court at a later date.
