Man dies after assault in Maida Vale
Met detectives have launched a murder investigation following an assault in Maida Vale.
Officers discovered a 60-year-old man with severe injuries while on patrol along Chippenham Road at 02.40hrs on Thursday, 14 May.
They provided emergency first aid and he was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.
Sadly, on Friday, 22 May, he died from his injuries. He can now be named as Michalis Kyriacou. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
Following urgent enquiries, a man who was known to the victim was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday, 17 May.
Biniam Tewolde Negash, 36 (25.10.1989), of Chippenham Road, was charged with attempted murder on the same day. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court Monday, 18 May where he was remanded into custody.
The Crown Prosecution Service has been informed of Michalis' death.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, of the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said: "Our thoughts are with Michalis' family and friends following this tragic news.
"We also want to reassure the local community that specialist officers are working hard to put together an exact picture of what took place."
