Man found guilty of murdering wife
A man has been convicted of murdering his wife at their home in Lewisham.
Following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court which concluded on Monday, 15 December, Hai Van Nguyen (29.04.83) of Hatfield Close, SE14 was found guilty of killing Hien Thi Vu on Sunday, 13 April.
Detectives launched an investigation after Nguyen walked into a police station and told officers he had stabbed his wife. He was immediately arrested and charged the following day.
Hien was found in her bedroom with seven stab wounds, one of which caused significant blood loss and led to her death. A bloody knife was found on her bedside drawer.
The court heard that Nguyen believed Hien had been unfaithful and would often challenge her about this. In the hours before she died, he made her access the TfL app to prove her movements.
Detective Inspector Stephanie Dexter, who led the investigation, said: “This is a tragic case and our thoughts remain with the couple’s three children who are grieving for the sudden loss of their mother.
“Nguyen was a jealous man who carried out a brutal attack on his wife in their own home, the place she should have been safest.
“Our commitment to tackling violence against women and girls is unwavering and we would encourage victims to reach out to police or other support agencies to seek help.
“We will respond with sensitivity, and we will work with you to provide the appropriate support, whilst keeping you safe and dealing robustly with the perpetrator.”
Nguyen will be sentenced on Friday, 19 December.
