Man jailed after being found guilty of rape

A man has been jailed for a non-recent rape offence following an investigation by specialist detectives.

Goher Ayub, 43 (23.08.80), of Ilford, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 22 February, where he was found guilty of rape.

He was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on Monday, 19 April to six years' imprisonment.

Detective Constable Matt Trenfield-Brown said: "This case is an example that no matter how many years have passed, we can achieve justice.

"We worked tirelessly with colleagues from another force, and the Crown Prosecution Service, to build a case against Ayub. As a result he will now spend years behind bars. He was also issued a restraining order and must sign the Sex Offenders Register for life on his release.

"We're very grateful to the victim for her courage in reporting Ayub."

The court heard that the victim - a woman known to him - contacted police in another force area in 2020 to report that Ayub had raped her between 2010 and 2011.

Officers from the Met were informed and began speaking to the victim.

Detectives set about building a case, carrying out a number of painstaking enquiries.

In December 2020 Ayub was interviewed who denied the offence, however, the strength of police evidence led to him being charged in April 2023.
