Man jailed for stalking after more than 100 videos of women being followed were recovered from his mobile phone

A man has been jailed for stalking two women in Barnet.

Shekhem Manning-Egeonwon, 20 [02.10.03] of Sturgess Avenue, NW4 appeared at Harrow Crown Court where on Friday, 9 August, where he was sentenced to 32 months in custody for each victim, to run concurrently. He was also made the subject of a restraining order.

He had previously been convicted at the same court on 12 January where he had previously pleaded not guilty. He changed his plea mid trial after CCTV evidence from his mobile phone was presented in court that showed him following women.

In September 2023, police had received a report that a man had been following a woman as she took her child to school in Barnet. The victim, aged in her 30s, had been followed by Manning-Egeonwon for five months.

Concerned for her safety, officers from the Met’s North West Command arranged to follow the victim on the school run and apprehend the suspect. Unfortunately, on that occasion, he didn’t appear.

However, the victim agreed to call officers if she saw him again and when he did appear she did just that. Following a brief drive around with the officers, the victim identified Manning-Egeonwon and he was detained on suspicion of stalking.

While Manning-Egeonwon was being arrested, another woman, aged 40s, approached officers telling them that she was also being followed by him.

Fast-time enquiries resulted in more than 100 videos being recovered from the defendant’s mobile phone that showed not only the two victims, but more women being followed during day and night and, in some cases, he had filmed them through windows.

Detective Constable Jas Brar investigating, said: “The scale of offending in this case was extreme. Manning-Egeonwon was stalking women day and night and in some cases approached them directly or knocked on their door.

“His actions were menacing and highly intrusive and caused extreme distress to the women he targeted. It is completely unacceptable that anyone should be afraid to leave their home for fear of this kind of harassment or that their sense of personal safety should be damaged in this way.

“I would like to thank the victims for supporting the investigation and sincerely hope that they can now move forward with a degree of confidence, knowing that Manning-Egeonwon is no longer free to roam the streets.”
