Met investigation leads to prison sentence for Islington sexual predator

A prolific child abuser who targeted children over thirty years ago has been jailed for 21 years following a painstaking investigation by Met officers. The case demonstrates the Met’s commitment to investigating child abuse as it transforms the way it protects the public from harm.

Anthony Fowler, 74, (16.06.1950) of Duncombe Road, Islington was jailed at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, 30 July. Fowler was previously found guilty for nine counts of sexual offending including bestiality on Thursday, 13 June.

The court heard that Fowler had subjected one victim to an abhorrent series of sexual assault over a two-year period from 1992 when his victim was less than 10 years old. A second victim later came forward reporting that they had also been abused by Fowler over several years.

Specialist officers launched an investigation into Fowler when his victim came forward 28 years after Fowler’s terrible crimes had taken place. As part of officers’ determination to build a case against Fowler, police carried out extensive interviews with friends and family of the victim, as well as gathering detailed medical records to show the extent of abuse. Fowler showed no remorse having initially only answered ’no comment’ throughout interviews and denied any child abuse.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarb Kaur, who led the investigation team, said: “I hope that the bravery and willingness of Fowler’s victims to come forward serves as an inspiration to those who may otherwise fear speaking out against this kind of abhorrent abuse.

“Officers showed true determination in securing justice on behalf of the victims. I’d like to thank them for their compassion and dedication. They are a credit to the Met.

“We would urge anyone who has been a victim of abuse – no matter how long ago – to please come forward to police and get the support they so rightly deserve”.
