Murder investigation launched in Hackney

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in Hackney.

Police were called to Whiston Road E2 at 06:42hrs on Saturday, 6 April, to concerns for a woman's welfare.

The woman was found unresponsive inside a car in an alleyway. Officers forced entry and administered CPR prior to the arrival of London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance paramedics.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services the woman, aged in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers believe that they know who the deceased is and have informed her family. They will be supported by specialist officers.

Formal identification has not yet taken place. A post-mortem examination will be held as soon as possible.

An investigation was launched and a man in his 20s was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder.

Detectives Inspector Aytac Necati, Specialist Crime, said: “As my colleagues and I begin our work today, we are all mindful of the human tragedy here. The victim’s family will be provided with every possible support and I can assure them that the Met’s investigation will be conducted with rigour and professionalism.

“While enquiries are in their early stages, I believe the deceased and the man arrested were known to each other.

“A crime scene remains in place in Whiston Road. Local people can expect to see additional police officers in the area in the coming days, and I urge them to speak with these officers should they have information or concerns.”
