Officer due in court charged with Misconduct in Public Office

A Met officer has been charged with two offences and is due to appear in court.

PC Adam Aspinall Da Encarnacao, attached to the policing team in West Area, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 August. He is suspended from duty.

On Wednesday, 3 July the Crown Prosecution Service authorised two charges of misconduct in public office.

These relate to inappropriately possessing and sharing CCTV images concerning the alleged rape of one woman and the rape of another. One of the women is Natalie Patricia Shotter, 37, who died in Southall Park on 17 July 2021.

We have informed Natalie’s family of the charge against PC Aspinall Da Encarnacao and our thoughts and sympathies remain with them for their loss and for the impact this news will have. We have also informed the second woman.

The matter is being investigated by professional standards officers. PC Aspinall Da Encarnacao was arrested on 12 September 2022 and immediately suspended from duty.

Misconduct matters will be dealt with at the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.
